The latest new recruits to play with Soul Purpose are vocalists Jasmine and Cindy. Cindy is also an experienced drummer and percusionist, and has been adding to the sound with her Conga playing. More news on these two soon, hopefully with pictures.

With their theatre commitments behind them for now, Soul Purpose is once again focussed on recording the sound track for the movie "Redemption 101". At the same time we are planning some changes to the web site with new content coming soon, including more mp3 and video downloads. Angel Studios has moved into its own new location (www.angelstudios.com.au) to give us room for the expansion.

Not content to just direct movies and videos for Angel Studios, our intrepid band leader Paul has branched out into stage directing. The play he's directing is "The Last of the Red Hot Irish Lovers" with the Brisbane Irish Theatre, and it starts this week. Other band members have also gotten involved, with Stephanie playing a role, and Adrian in charge of sound effects. To find out what Stephanie is doing in the picture, you'll need to see the play! It's on at the Metro Arts Studio, 109 Edward St. City. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from Apr 7th - 16th at 7.30pm, and a Sunday Matinee on Apr 10th. Phone the theatre on 3002 7100 to book your ticket now!

The members of Soul Purpose have been busy this month with their roles in the Angel Studios movie project "Redemption 101" (a science fiction film that revolves around the quirky crew of the starship Redemption as they transport an important bishop and his entourage to the remote Orion star system). Filming and rehearsals are now underway, and as you can see from the picture, the movie boasts some very colourful characters! Here is the Aldaran warlord, Ambassador Glug, no, wait - it's his twin brother Glog, with his faithful henchperson, Glitch.

The latest breaking news is that Soul Purpose have almost finished recording the Redemption 101 theme song, a Paul Day original, which will be featured on their upcoming album.

Ancient mysteries uncovered, new facts revealed, hidden codes, UFO encounters... Is Soul Purpose just an ordinary rock band with an extraordinary past, or are they something more? Now you can explore the mysteries of the universe with "Soul Purpose: Now & Then", the first full length documentary to be produced by Angel Studios. The DVD takes a not entirely serious look at the history of Soul Purpose from their first official appearance in 1995 to the present day, and includes 10 music videos, plus special. features and songs by guest artists.

We decided to produce a documentary as a change from the usual music videos so we could explore the acting potential of Soul Purpose, in preparation for the band's first appearance in a full length movie to be made soon at Angel Studios. The documentary which has been very well received, is now available to buy online.

So now that the documentary's done, it's full steam ahead with the next movie project, "Redemption 101" a science fiction film that revolves around the quirky crew of the starship Redemption as they transport an important bishop and his entourage to the remote Orion star system. The trouble begins when they answer a distress call and pick up some alien passengers who are not quite what they seem. Auditions begin in the new year so if you're an aspiring actor or actress, or are interested in joining the film crew, please contact Paul.

Meanwhile recording continues on the much anticipated second album, which is progressing well and is expected to be released in 2005.

Last Saturday Soul Purpose made an appearance at the Kangaroo Point Musical and Cultural Concert. It was a very successful evening, featuring numerous choirs, soloists, dancers, and international acts, playing to a packed house. Soul Purpose topped off the night with a 20 minute set of original songs, including some from their upcoming CD, much to the delight of the crowd. A good time was had by all!

We were relieved to hear that rumours of Rick Farbach's demise were exaggerated. Rick was Paul's guitar teacher, and our old site listed him as "late". He recently contacted Paul to let him know that he wasn't late after all, but alive and well and living on the Sunshine Coast. He has just celebrated his 80th birthday - there should be some pictures on his web site by now.

Soul Purpose has been busy over the last few weekends at Angel Studios where they've started laying down some tracks for their third album. That should keep us busy for quite a while!

The band is still playing regularly at Kangaroo Point Uniting Church. Come along and check out the special musical services on the 4th Sunday of each month.

Well the new year is here, and it looks like it will be a busy one for Soul Purpose. Already lined up are a party appearance for Crossroads on Feb 16th, and a music and arts festival at Kangaroo Point on March 9th (see the gig guide for more info). Also appearing at the festival will be Alison Rogers’ group “Vocal Manoeuvres”, who will hopefully be teaming up with Soul Purpose for quite a few performances in the future. Alison and Paul are planning to team up on some recording projects too, which could happen very soon, because (wait for it...) the studio is finally ready for recording! We’ll be trying it out this weekend, no doubt following all the good advice that Paul has just added to the studio pages

> Dec. 21 2001

The big news this week is that the new mixing console for the studio (an Amek Einstein) has arrived. It's quite impressive - see the studio page for more information. Paul and Will have spent many hours installing it, and it's just about ready to roll.

Soul Purpose will also be appearing at the Kangaroo Point Uniting Church this Sunday at 10.00am, playing Christmas carols at a combined service with the Korean church. Everyone is welcome to come along.

The band had a great time playing at the Power Up 2001 music festival in Nanango last Saturday - we caught up with some old friends, and met a lot of new ones (thanks to Gemma and her family for the excellent barbeque dinner and entertaining company!). Some members of the band will be playing again on Sunday at the Kangaroo Point Uniting Church, and we have a number of other gigs coming up in the next month or two. Check the new gig guide page for details.

Soul Purpose will be playing at the Power Up 2001 music festival in Nanango on Saturday the 17th Nov. This exciting day of music festivity will be hosted by the Nanango Community Baptist Church, and will be held outdoors on their property on Mount Stanley Road, commencing at llam through to approximately 5pm. A variety of stalls will be set up with interesting goods, and also available for purchase will be the CD's of participating artists. On Saturday the 13th of October, Soul Purpose made two appearances on mainstage at the National Gospel Happening in Canberra at the Bruce Stadium. We were on about 3.30pm in the afternoon and around 8.30 pm in the evening, when we played to a packed house. Everyone had a great time, and the highlight of the night would have to be Paul and Adrian's boot skootin' routine to Stand Up!
