> Soul Purpose's Official Biography

Like a colourful melodic tapestry, the music of Soul Purpose draws together threads from many sources including rock, blues, pop, gospel, motown, and R&B, with the occasional catchy country melody or near classical ballad thrown in. With a mixture of guitar, brass, flute, bass, and drums, the sound is energetic, complex and always tantalisingly different from anything you've heard so far. The songs are presented with heart, honesty, and a theatrical flourish.

Versatile and talented Brisbane songwriter Paul Day is the originator of Soul Purpose and the brains behind all their music and arrangements. He started the band almost 10 years ago with a group of close friends and gifted musicians with a desire play their own brand of gospel music. Since then their musical following has grown both locally and internationally, and although the lineup has changed over time the unique sound has endured.

With their gospel songs, their main aim is to reach a non-Christian audience, and to do this they have regularly played at pubs and clubs around Brisbane. The group is non denominational, and tries to focus on the basic truths found in Jesus' teachings.

Past performances include "Ashes to Life" at Brisbane Riverstage, appearances at the Queen Street Mall, Cavill Mall Surfers Paradise, and The Zoo, Godfest 99 and Godfest 2000 Taree, Black Stump N.S.W., The Australian Gospel Music Festival Toowoomba, The National Gospel Happening in Canberra, and the Logan Entertainment Centre.

In 1998 they released a four track self-titled CD which received airplay in Queensland and New South Wales, and more recently in New York. In 1999 they released a 14 track album called 'Precious Love' which proved even more popular. It has been a favourite on many Rhema stations and was played on 96.5 FM in Brisbane and regional ABC radio. The album includes the tracks "Bound To The Cross", "Give It Up", "Ayse(Isha)", and "Stand Up", all of which have earned Paul nominations as finalist or top finalist for two years running in the Queensland Recording Association's Sunni awards.
